Monsoon To Reach Delhi, Chandigarh By This Date; IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert For Several States

IMD has forecast strong surface winds accompanied with light rain on Sunday, with the maximum temperature expected to hover around 37 degree Celsius.

IMD has forecast that the southwest monsoon will reach Delhi in the next two days.

The southwest monsoon is likely to reach Delhi and Chandigarh in the next two days, i.e. by June 24, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday, adding that the conditions are favourable for further advancement of southwest monsoons.

Additionally, monsoon is also expected to cover parts of Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir in the next two days.

"The southwest monsoon has advanced further over most parts of Himachal Pradesh, the entire Ladakh and Kashmir, most parts of Jammu, and some parts of Punjab," IMD said.

"Conditions are favourable for the Southwest monsoon to advance further over the remaining parts of the North Arabian Sea, some more parts of Rajasthan and Punjab, some parts of Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi, and the remaining parts of West Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu during the next two days," it added.

Light Right Likely In Delhi Today

Meanwhile, IMD had forecast strong surface winds accompanied with light rain on Sunday. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 37 degree Celsius.

On Sunday, the city recorded a minimum temperature of 27.8 degrees Celsius, with satisfactory Air Quality Index of 59 at 9:00 AM.

The national capital also received rain on Saturday afternoon, with a yellow alert issued by the IMD for the day. According to the weather department, Safdarjung recorded 2.6 mm rainfall, Palam 0.4 mm, Ayanagar 0.4 mm and Lodhi Road 0.2 mm

IMD Issues Alert For Heavy To Very Heavy Rainfall 

The weather department has also forecast that northwest India, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Konkan and Goa will likely receive heavy to very heavy rainfall during June 22-26 , while isolated extremely heavy rainfall is predicted over Gujarat on June 22 and over Madhya Pradesh on June 23-24.

Northeast India is likely to continue receiving heavy to very heavy rainfall during next three days, followed by isolated heavy rainfall for four days.

According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places was recorded over eastern Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat in the last 24 hours as of 8:30 AM on June 22.

The weather department added that Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Bihar, West Uttar Pradesh, eastern Rajasthan recorded heavy to very heavy rainfall was recorded at isolated places, while heavy rainfall was recorded at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Gangetic West Bengal, Uttarakhand, eastern Uttar Pradesh, western Rajasthan, western Madhya Pradesh, Konkan and Goa,coastal Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam.
