'Killed' And 'Cremated', MP Woman Returns From Dead After 18 Months; 4 In Jail For Crime

According to the woman's father, the family had performed her last rites after identifying a mutilated body based on physical markings, including a tattoo and a black thread tied around the leg.

In a shocking twist, a woman who was presumed dead by her family, returned home alive 18 months after her family performed her last rites following her alleged murder in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur district.

The woman, identified as Lalita Bai, appeared at her home, which left her family shocked. Her father immediately took her to the police station and informed the authorities where it was confirmed that she was alive, India Today reported.

This unexpected reappearance raised serious questions as four people had been convicted for killing her and are currently in prison.

According to the woman's father, the family had performed her last rites after identifying a mutilated body as hers based on physical markings, including a tattoo on the hand and a black thread tied around the leg. Believing it to be Lalita, the family performed the last rites, the report said.

The police registered a murder case back then and arrested four for her alleged murder, including Imran, Shahrukh, Sonu, and Ejaz, who were later sent to jail.

Woman Reveals She Was Sold To Man And Lived In Kota

Revealing details about her disappearance, Lalita revealed that  she had left with Shahrukh to Bhanupara and, after two days, was allegedly sold to another man, also named Shahrukh, for ₹5 lakh. She claimed to have lived in Kota for over a year before managing to escape and return home. To verify her identity, she provided official documents, including her Aadhaar and Voter ID, India Today reported.

Her return was an emotional moment for her two children, who were happy to reunite with their mother.

Gandhi Sagar police station in-charge Taruna Bhardwaj confirmed that Lalita had reported her survival to the police days earlier. Authorities verified her identity through family members and neighbors, who confirmed that she was the same Lalita. Senior officials and Thandla police have also been informed about the unexpected turn of events.
