Husband, In-Laws Inject Woman With HIV-Infected Needle Over Dowry Demand In UP

The woman's father alleged that she had been subjected to constant torture by her in-laws over unmet dowry demands. Her in-laws had been demanding an SUV car and Rs 25 lakh cash.

A man in Uttar Pradesh alleged that his daughter was forcibly given an HIV-infected injection by her in-laws, who he said had been torturing her for not fulfilling their dowry demands. A case has been registered on a local court's order regarding the matter.

According to the man, he married his daughter Sonal Saini to Abhishek alias Sachin from Haridwar, Uttarakhand on February 15, 2023. The complaint says that he had given a car and Rs 15 lakh as dowry to the groom's family, but the in-laws were not happy despite this. After some time, they began demanding Rs 25 lakh and a Scorpio SUV car, India Today reported.

The matter was initially brought before the Panchayat in the Jaswawala village of Haridwar, which intervened and sent back the woman to her in-laws' house. However, she continued to suffer physical and mental torture, her father said in the complaint. Now, the woman's family has accused her in-laws of conspiring to kill her by giving her HIV-infected injections.

After being given the injection, the woman's health began deteriorating after some time. When her parents took her to the hospital, the doctors told them that she had been infected with HIV.

The family was shocked when medical examination revealed that her husband Abhishek was tested HIV negative. This made the family suspicious that the injection had been intentionally given by the in-laws. Thereafter, the woman's family complained to the police, but no action was taken against the accused, the report said.

Seeking justice for their daughter, the family then approached a local court which ordered that a case be registered against Abhishek. The Gangoh Kotwali police have finally registered a case against the woman's husband, his parents, and other family members under several sections of the BNS including dowry harassment, attempt to murder, and assault, among others.
