Himachal Pradesh Records Ninth Lowest January Rainfall This Year Since 1901
Himachal Pradesh received minimal rainfall in January 2025, the ninth lowest in record since 1901.

Himachal Pradesh received the ninth lowest rainfall in the month of January this year according to data between January 1 and February 1, said the local meteorological department.
The average rainfall recorded between January 1 and February 1 was 13.3 millimetres against a normal of 85.3 millimetres, reported PTI.
The lowest ever January rainfall of 0.3 mm was recorded in the year 1996, followed by 6.8 mm in 2024, and 9 mm in 2018. According to the meteorological department, the rain deficit was 84 per cent.
All 12 districts in the state recorded deficit rainfall in January, ranging between 76 per cent in Kullu and 95 per cent in Hamirpur and Una districts.
Lahaul-Spiti districts recorded a 77 per cent deficit in rainfall while Solan and Kinnar received 93 per cent less rainfall. Chamba received 88 per cent less rainfall, Mandi 85 per cent, Shimla 82 per cent, and Sirmaur had a deficit of 80 per cent of rainfall, said the weather office, as per the PTI report.
The Himalayan state received isolated to fairly widespread rainfall in January with weak activity on many days and normal activity on three days, January 12, 16, and 17.
Pandoh in Mandi district received the highest single-day rainfall of 23.5 mm on January 7, followed by 18.1 mm at Sarahan in Shimla district on January 12.
On January 17, Koksar in the Lahaul-Spiti district received the heaviest snowfall of 19 cm, followed by Bharmour in the Chamba district at 15.3 cm on January 16, and Hansa in the Lahaul-Spiti district at 15 cm on January 20.
For Monday, the weather department has predicted light precipitation at isolated places, light to moderate rainfall at a few places on February 4-5, and dry weather on February 6-7.
