Heavy Rains Trigger Traffic Jams, Waterlogging In Hyderabad — Video

In Hyderabad, the IMD forecast predicts a "partly cloudy sky with light to moderate rain or thundershowers" over the next four days.

In light of the weather conditions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Wednesday, warning of potential thunderstorms across Hyderabad, Rangareddy, and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts. The IMD forecast predicts a "partly cloudy sky with light to moderate rain or thundershowers" over the next four days.

On Tuesday evening, Hyderabad experienced a spell of heavy rain accompanied by strong winds. The rainfall caused widespread waterlogging and severe traffic disruptions across the city. The Hyderabad Traffic Police reported traffic snarls in multiple areas, including at Apollo Hospital, Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills and Taj Krishna. Major traffic snarls were also observed on the busy Khairatabad to VV Statue route.

The city’s IT corridor like Gachibowli was particularly affected, with Cyberabad Traffic Police reporting significant delays. Commuters were stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic, especially along the Secretariat-Liberty-Himayathnagar road, reported The Hindu.

On Tuesday, October 1, Gandhari in Kamareddy recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 97.3 mm, while Hyderabad saw moderate rain, with Patigadda receiving 40 mm.

Meanwhile, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has issued an alert urging residents along the banks of the Musi River to remain vigilant, particularly in low-lying areas, as 1,776 cusecs of water are being released from the city's reservoirs, as reported by Deccan Chronicle. Residents have been advised to avoid waterlogged areas and stay cautious during the forecasted thunderstorms.

On Wednesday, IMD said, "Southwest monsoon has been weak over Telangana. Heavy rainfall occurred at isolated places in Sangareddy and Kamareddy Districts of Telangana."

As of Monday, Hyderabad received 825.5 mm of rainfall as against the 61.5 mm of rainfall. According to the IMD, it recorded 34 percent deviation from the normal rainfall activity.
