'Family Member Funds Party In Pakistan': Haryana Women's Panel Chief On Ali Khan Mahmudabad's Arrest

Haryana Women's Commission Chair Renu Bhatia accused Ashoka University professor Ali Khan Mahmudabad of his past several controversial statements.

Haryana Commission for Women Chairperson Renu Bhatia on Monday levelled serious allegations against Ashoka University professor Ali Khan Mahmudabad, who was arrested over controversial social media posts about Operation Sindoor, claiming he had previously made controversial statements and family members reportedly do funding in Pakistan.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Bhatia said, “He has made such statements before. I heard one of his family members does funding in Pakistan. Once, the university students protested against the security checks, and Ali Khan was found to be involved. When I asked the Vice Chancellor, registrar, and a member of the university why this was done, they were quiet.”

Addressing another issue, Bhatia also condemned recent remarks made by Cabinet Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah, asserting, “No one, regardless of the party they belong to, has the right to make derogatory remarks against a woman.”

'Suo Motu' Cognisance Of Remarks

According to a report by HT, the action against Mahmudabad was taken after a complaint filed by a BJP Yuva Morcha leader. The development followed after the Haryana State Commission for Women took suo motu cognisance of his remarks against the operation.

In a notice, the commission described his statements as undermining women officers working in the Indian armed forces.

Mahmudabad had referred to the initial media briefings on ‘Operation Sindoor’ conducted by women officers, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, as “optics” and “mere hypocrisy.”

Colonel Qureshi and Wing Commander Singh had addressed the media alongside Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, providing details on Operation Sindoor, India’s military strikes targeting terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

"I am very happy to see so many right-wing commentators applauding Colonel Sophia Qureishi, but perhaps they could also equally loudly demand that the victims of mob lynchings, arbitrary bulldozing and others who are victims of the BJP's hate mongering be protected as Indian citizens. The optics of two women soldiers presenting their findings is important, but optics must translate to reality on the ground, otherwise it's just hypocrisy,” Mahmudabad's post read.

Ali Khan Mahmudabad, 42, currently serves as the head of the Political Science Department at Ashoka University in Sonipat, Haryana.
