Gurugram: Tourist Pays Uber Driver With A Rs 500 Note From 'Manoranjan Bank', Claims It 'Came From ATM'

A tourist in Gurugram unknowingly paid their Uber driver with counterfeit currency. It was issued by "Manoranjan Bank of India".

A tourist exploring the rural parts of Gurugram found themselves caught up in an unexpected situation after unknowingly paying their Uber driver with a counterfeit note. The incident was later shared by the tourist on Reddit in a post, which quickly garnered attention and sparked a barrage of reactions

The drama took place after the driver received the payment and inspected the Rs 500 note. Upon finding out that it was counterfeit currency, he began shouting "Fake! Fake!"

'I’m 90% Sure This Came From ATM'

The tourist was unable to understand the driver due to language barrier and thought the driver's outburst was meant as a personal insult. However, the truth was that the note was not just a counterfeit but a playful one as it featured stamps like "Churan Label", "Full of Fun", and was issued by "Manoranjan Bank of India".

Later, in a post on Reddit under the username 'barkka', the tourist shared their side of the story. "I’m 90% sure this came from the ATM. The other 10% is me not wanting to believe an ATM could mess up like this," the post read.

This incident has left people with a lesson to check their cash carefully before making payments.

The tourist was left embarrassed and confused, wondering how they ended up with a fake note after the driver confronted them.

One user commented on the post, "100% the taxi driver switched the money. Happened to my cousin in Mumbai. The exact same thing but for him it was 2000 rupee notes when we had them."

Another user wrote, "Man you just got manoranjan’d. There’s no recovering from it. May you have the power to live with this."

"Okay I understand you didn’t see it, BUT DID YOU NOT FEEL IT?", a third user commented, to which the tourist replied, "I’m not a very keen person."

Another user said, "That driver pulled a fast one on you!", claiming that the driver may have outsmarted the tourist.

"This sounds so embarrassing, but at least you’ve got a story to tell," a user wrote.

Similar Incidents In The Past

A similar incident took place a few years ago in 2017 when an ATM in south Delhi's Amar Colony area dispensed a fake Rs 2,000 currency note. The fake Rs 2000 note bore prints of "Children Bank of India" and "Manoranjan Bank" on it.

Following this, police had registered a case under Sections 489 B (using as genuine, forged or counterfeit currency or bank-notes), 489 E (Making or using documents resembling currency or bank-notes) of IPC at Amar Colony police station.

In another case, an ATM in Sangam Vihar in south east Delhi had dispensed four fake notes of Rs 2,000 denomination, bearing "Churan label" and "Children Bank of India" printed on it. Following this, the custodian of the Brinks India Pvt Ltd, which worked for the SBI ATM at the time was arrested. He was later granted bail.
