UP: Darul Uloom Lifts Ban On Women's Entry But Puts These Conditions

Darul Uloom in UP's Deoband has lifted ban on women's entry into its campus but has issued several rules for visitors.

The Islamic seminary Darul Uloom in Uttar Pradesh's Deoband has lifted the ban on entry of women but has set some rules for their entry into the campus, said the institution.

Women coming to the campus will now have to wear hijab, according to the rules that came into effect on Friday. The women must also be accompanied by a family member when entering the institution, as per the rules, reported PTI.

The Islamic educational institution had banned the entry of women into its premises earlier this year over complaints of "reels" being shot inside the campus. Lifting the ban, the management said videography would be completely prohibited and visitors would have to submit their mobile phones at the gate before entering.

Ashraf Usmani, media in charge at Darul Uloom said on Saturday the management has issued the rule for the entry of women coming from across the globe after several rounds of talks.

Following this, women will be able to enter the Darul Uloom campus, he said.

An officer has been appointed by the Darul Uloom management to issue visitor passes, which will apply to both men and women entering the campus. People seeking to visit the institution will have to show their Aadhar Card, Voter ID or PAN card to the concerned officer to get the visitor pass.

Visitors' names, mobile numbers, addresses, number of men and women seeking entry, will also be recorded, he said.

Women will have to wear hijab and will be allowed to enter the madrassa till sunset. Mobile phones of every person entering the campus will be deposited at the main gate which will be returned to them when they leave, Usmani said.

The visitor pass will be valid for two hours and will automatically cancelled after sunset, he added.

On May 17, the Darul Uloom banned the entry of women over complaints that women without veils were taking photos and videos of the buildings of the institution and sharing them on social media.

As per the management, the students were also getting affected by it.
