Congress High Command Summons Siddaramaiah To Delhi Over Bengaluru Stampede

Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah is set to meet Congress top brass in Delhi after being summoned over the Bengaluru stadium stampede that killed eleven and injured 56.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is set to visit New Delhi on Tuesday, June 10, to brief the Congress high command on the tragic stampede outside Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium that claimed 11 lives. This comes as the Congress high command summoned the CM to Delhi, days after the deadly stampede.

According to an official statement from the Chief Minister’s Office, “Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will travel to Delhi tomorrow. Siddaramaiah will meet party leadership in Delhi and will brief them on the latest developments.”

The meeting is expected to include discussions on various developments, including the June 4 stampede, which occurred during the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) IPL team’s victory celebration.

A massive crowd had gathered outside the stadium gates, leading to a deadly stampede that left 11 dead and 56 injured. The chaos and subsequent administrative fallout drew intense scrutiny on the state leadership, with the opposition demanding the resignation of the CM and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar.

According to a report by News 18, Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar were summoned to Delhi tomorrow and asked to meet Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday morning.

Siddaramaiah Issues Clarification Over 'Connection' With Stadium

Congress State President and Deputy CM Shivakumar is already in Delhi for a government programme, and is expected to extend his stay to meet the Congress high command.

Meanwhile, CM Siddaramaiah on Sunday clarified that he did not have "any connection with the cricket stadium". "This incident shouldn’t have happened, it happened at the Cricket stadium. I don’t have any connection with the cricket stadium," he said.

He also addressed allegations regarding police accountability, stating that multiple officials had faced action, not just the police commissioner. He said that five officers have been suspended, and changes have been made at the top of the intelligence department.

"My political secretary, K Govindaraj, has been removed. We have taken a series of actions, not the police commissioner alone," the CM added.

In another development, Suspended Additional Commissioner of Police Vikash Kumar has approached the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) to challenge his suspension and subsequent disciplinary action against him over the Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede case.
