The accused minor forced the auto which the victims were riding to stop before he opened fire in Rohtas, Bihar.

A class 10th student, who, allegedly opened fire at his classmates killing one and injuring another in Rohtas, Bihar has been detained. He shot at them with a country-made pistol, after they refused to show him their answer sheets during board examinations.

The firearm was recovered from the minor’s possession, according to The Indian Express.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that an altercation took place between two groups of students inside an examination centre in Sasaram on Thursday... When Amit and another student, Sanjit Kumar, were returning home in an autorickshaw, they were stopped by one of their classmates who allegedly shot at them and fled," Superintendent of Police Raushan Kumar said, according to a PTI report.

On Thursday, when Amit and Sanjit were on their way back home with others in an auto, the accused minor followed them with his friends. He forced the auto to stop, and a scuffle ensued with the victims during which he allegedly shot at them. The injured students were rushed to a hospital, and during treatment, Amit succumbed to his injuries. However, as per the PTI report, in a statement issued on Friday morning, the accused claims that he was allegedly harassed by Amit, Sanjit and their friends for one year.

“Even on Thursday, the minor boy claimed that he was assaulted by Amit, Sanjit and others when the final exam was underway, following which he decided to take revenge. The accused also said he wanted to shoot another classmate, but the bullet mistakenly hit Amit and Sanjit,” according to the statement, PTI reported. Police said the detained boy further claimed that those who were “harassing” him spread “wrong information that the incident took place following a dispute over cheating in exam”.

On Friday, family members of the deceased student blocked a stretch of the nearby highway and disrupted the movement of traffic by burning tyres.

The protesters also kept the body of the deceased on the highway, demanding immediate action against the accused. The blockade was lifted after the intervention of senior police officers.
