Chennai Power Shutdown On Feb 14, 2025: These Areas To Experience Power Outage On Valentine's Day

Chennai Power Shutdown: Nearly 15 localities will be affected by the power cut, which is scheduled to last for five hours, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Chennai Power Shutdown: The residents of Chennai are set to experience a power shutdown on Valentine’s Day, February 14, as the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO) has announced maintenance work across multiple areas of the city. Nearly 15 localities will be affected by the outage, which is scheduled to last for five hours, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

TANGEDCO has assured residents that power supply could be restored earlier if the maintenance work is completed ahead of schedule. According to Live Chennai, the areas affected by the shutdown include:

Ambattur: Ponniamman Nagar, Kasthuri Nagar, Metro City Phase 2, Agragaram.

J.J. Nagar: TVS Colony, TVS Avenue, TVS Main Road, Devar Nagar.

Ayyapakkam: TNHB Ayyapakkam Phase 1 and 2, TNHB Plot Nos. 7000 to 10000, ICF Colony, Thiruverkadu Main Road, TNHB Plot Nos. 6000 to 7000, MGR Puram Road.

This announcement comes a day after a similar power shutdown was experienced in Porur, Red Hills, and East Mogappair, affecting 40 locations, including Iyyappanthangal and Kattupakkam.

However, on Friday, the timing of the shutdown coincides with Valentine’s Day celebrations, a day when Chennai’s markets are bustling with activity. The Koyambedu flower market is already abuzz with traders stocking fresh roses in red, pink, and white hues, catering to couples eager to celebrate the occasion. There are also huge demand for chocolates and helium-filled metallic balloons among the couples.

However, the festive spirit comes with a cautionary note. Electric utility company FirstEnergy has urged people to be mindful of helium balloons, which, if released, can cause power outages by hitting electrical lines, as reported by Yahoo.com.

Despite the inconvenience caused by the power shutdown, several Valentine’s Day shows and events are scheduled to take place across the city. Residents are advised to plan their day accordingly and make alternative arrangements to ensure their celebrations remain uninterrupted.

TANGEDCO has requested cooperation from the public as they carry out essential maintenance work to improve the city’s power infrastructure.
