Chennai Power Cut Alert On June 13: Several Areas To Face Shutdown As Heat Rises

Chennai residents in Sembakkam, Pallavaram West, and Medavakkam will experience a power cuts from 9 AM to 2 PM on Friday, June 13, due to TANGEDCO maintenance.

Several parts of Chennai will face scheduled power cuts on Friday, June 13, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM due to essential maintenance work by TANGEDCO. The outage comes at a time when the city is reeling under sweltering conditions, with no major relief in sight despite cloudy skies.

The power disruption is expected to affect major residential and commercial zones in Sembakkam, Pallavaram West, and Medavakkam. TANGEDCO has cited reasons including tree cutting, AB switch maintenance, re-sagging of HT/LT lines, replacement of polymer insulators, cut point jumper renewal, and installation of new switches as part of the maintenance drive.

Sembakkam:

  • Register Office Selaiyur
  • Venkat Raman Street
  • Maruthi Nagar 2nd Main Road
  • Velachery Main Road (Maha Lakshmi Nagar)
  • Swamy Street, Rama Samy Street
  • Marai Malai Adigal Street, Avvaiyar Street, Sabai

Pallavaram West:

  • Indira Gandhi Road
  • Thandumariyamman Kovil Street
  • GST Road (Pammal Main Road to A2B Hotel stretch)
  • Malick Street, Nagarathinam Street
  • Kannabiran Koil Street
  • Chennai Silks Olympia and Athulya Towers

Medavakkam:

  • Bhell Nagar (1st to 5th Streets)
  • Parasuram Avenue, Vadakkupattu Main Road
  • Billabong High School, Vellammal School
  • JK Avenue, RS Enclave
  • Alfa Flats & Villa, Roopam Flats
  • United Colony, Sairam Nagar

Though TANGEDCO has issued prior notice, residents are likely to face significant inconvenience due to the ongoing heat and humidity. The weather department has forecast cloudy skies, but no substantial rainfall or temperature drop, adding to public discomfort.

Authorities have urged residents in the affected areas to plan accordingly, especially those working from home or with medical needs, as the shutdown could impact cooling systems and digital infrastructure.

In the meantime, residents can find respite from the heat by visiting malls, cafés, libraries, hotels, parks or metro stations that remain powered during outages.
