'Lady Don' Arrested For Involvement In Burger King Shootout In Delhi That Killed 1

Delhi Police arrested 19-year-old Annu Dhankar from the Indo-Nepal border for her involvement in a Burger King shootout that killed one person.

A 19-year-old woman was arrested by the Delhi Police on Friday for her alleged role in a shootout at a Burger King outlet in Delhi's Rajouri Nagar on June 18. The woman, Annu Dhankar was arrested from the Indo-Nepal border on Friday afternoon, according to the police.

Dhankar had allegedly helped the Himanshu Bhau gang in the shootout that killed a 26-year-old man Aman Joon from another gang.

According to a Hindustan Times report, Dhankar lured the victim, a suspected member of the Ashok Pradhan gang, to the Burger King outlet on the pretext of a date and kept him occupied until two assailants arrived and gunned him down.

Over 50 customers and 10 staffers were present inside the eatery when the assailants fired at least 25 bullets at Joon.

Dhankar's role emerged as a prime accused during the investigation, said Amit Kaushik, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell). She called Joon to meet her and passed the information to her alleged boyfriend, Bhau.

Bhau had claimed responsibility on social media for the murder saying Joon was involved in the 2020 murder of their associate Shakti Dad.

The two assailants involved in the shootout were killed in a police encounter in July while Dhankar managed to escape. She was last seen in CCTV footage at the Katra railway station a day after the murder, said police.

She was hiding at paying guest accommodation in Kota for the past four months, said a second officer. Since she was 19 years old and looked like a student it was easy for her to hide and nobody suspected anything since there were hundreds of students there, the officer said.

On Thursday, police received a tip that Dhankar was spotted travelling in a bus from Kota from where she reached Lucknow and further went to Lakhimpur Kheri. We were told that she was nearing the Indo-Nepal border. A team immediately went there and caught her near the border,” said DCP Kaushik.

Dhankar came on the police radar after a firing incident in Sonipat in January. After the incident, she fled from Rohtak and shifted to Delhi, according to police.
