4 Dead, Several Feared Trapped As Building Collapses In Delhi's Mustafabad, Rescue Ops On

Following the incident, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and police teams reached the spot along with the dog squad to undertake the rescue operations, which are underway.

As many as four people were killed and several people feared trapped after a building collapsed in Delhi's Mustafabad area in the early hours of Saturday. 

Following the incident, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and police teams reached the spot along with the dog squad to undertake the rescue operations which are underway. More than 20 people were believed to be inside the building at the time of collapse, out of which nearly five people have been rescued. They are undergoing treatment at a hospital.

According to news agency IANS, the building that collapsed was a four-storey L-shaped structure. The incident took place between 2:30 and 3:00 AM. 

Visuals from the site shared by news agency ANI showed locals helping the rescue teams in clearing the debris.

Fire Officer, Division Officer Rajendra Athwal said: "We received a call about a house collapse at around 2:50 AM. When our initial teams arrived, they observed that the entire building had collapsed, and we received information that people were trapped under the debris. Our teams are currently working at the scene. The NDRF, Delhi Fire Service, and various civil agencies are jointly carrying out rescue operations to save those trapped."

Meanwhile, a local resident told IANS that around 30 people are feared trapped inside the building, claiming that five to six bodies have been recovered. 

"It was a four-storey building that suddenly collapsed. At least three to four families were living there as tenants, along with the owner. Around 20 to 25 people are believed to be trapped inside. Out of them, five to six bodies have been recovered so far. I had also carried someone out who was alive at that time..."
