Brief Tension As People Stopped Outside UP Eidgahs Over Crowding Concerns. No Prayers At Srinagar's Eidgah

No Eid-ul-Fitr prayers were offered at the historic Eidgah grounds in Srinagar as the J&K Waqf Board decided against holding the prayers at the Eidgah citing the ongoing construction work.

People in Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad entered into a verbal argument with police on Monday after they were stopped from entering Moradabad Eidgah to offer Namaz on Eid-ul-Fitr. However, the situation was brought under control later and they were able to offer prayers at the Eidgah.

Police had stopped devotees from entering the Eidgah acs a large number of people were present inside. After this, the namaz was offered again.

"Namaz has been offered everywhere peacefully. Preparations were done for the last 5-6 days. Some people wanted to offer Namaz at the Eidgah after the Namaz was offered. They had talks with the Imam, and now they are offering Namaz peacefully again. Currently. The situation is under control now," SSP Moradabad Satpal Antil said, as reported by news agency ANI.

A similar incident happened in Meerut as police stopped worshippers heading to offer prayers at the Eidgah as it had reached full capacity. The worshippers were halted at the Railway Road intersection, which led to a protest, while the police struggled to pacify them. Following this, the barricades were removed and the worshippers proceeded towards the Shahi Eidgah for Namaz.

No Namaz In Srinagar's Eidgah And Jamia Masjid

No Eid-ul-Fitr prayers were offered at the historic Eidgah grounds in Srinagar. The J&K Waqf Board had decided against holding the prayers at the Eidgah citing the ongoing construction work. The Jammu and Kashmir Police had also closed the Jamia Masjid due to security concerns.  

Instead, the Eid prayers are being conducted at various other mosques across Jammu and Kashmir. The largest gathering is at the Hazratbal Shrine, where Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is expected to participate in the prayers. 

The Eidgah locality of Srinagar is spread over 600 kanals of land and hosts 15th century Aali Masjid, the second largest mosque in Kashmir after Jamia Masjid.
