Bijnor Shocker: Woman Marries Ex-Husband’s Brother, Later Killed By Both; Skeleton Found 1.5 Years Later

The incident came to light after Ashifa’s mother, Asma, registered a missing person complaint on March 25, 2025, at the Heempur Deepa police station.

A murder case of a married woman has surfaced in Bijnor’s Chandpur area of Uttar Pradesh that had remained buried for nearly a year and a half. The skeletal remains of the woman were recovered by the police after she went missing in late 2023.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, police confirmed that the deceased was identified as Ashifa, who was killed by her former husband, Kamil, and his elder brother, Adil, with whom she later married.

The incident came to light after Ashifa’s mother, Asma, registered a missing person complaint on March 25, 2025, at the Heempur Deepa police station. In the filed complaint, her mother named Kamil, Adil, and seven others in the disappearance. Asma, a resident of Sabdalpur village, informed the police that she has been trying to call her daughter over the past one and a half years.

She added that after several attempts, her daughter's calls were either unanswered or received by Adil, who reportedly used to give varied excuses each time, saying Ashifa was unwell, busy or out of station. These continued responses raised suspicion.

Investigation Is Onway

Police said Ashifa was first married to Kamil, but after their divorce, she went on to marry his elder brother, Adil. In November 2023, she was reported missing. Following a complaint, both Kamil and Adil were taken into custody.

During interrogation, the brothers allegedly admitted to strangling Ashifa and burying her body near a garbage dump along the Naiwala–Hallupura road. They also claimed their aunt, Chandni, assisted in the crime.

Additional Superintendent of Police Vijay Kumar Singh said skeletal remains were recovered from the site based on their confession and are currently undergoing forensic examination. “The accused said the murder was triggered by Adil’s fear that Ashifa might harm him, which led to the plotting and execution of the crime,” Singh said.

According to the ASP, Adil had become increasingly suspicious of Ashifa and feared she could conspire to have him killed. Driven by this mistrust, he allegedly conspired with Kamil and their aunt Chandni to kill her, police said. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities said more arrests could be made if others are found to be involved.
