Bihar Shocker: Woman Kills Stepdaughter, Sets Body On Fire, Hides Remains In Wooden Box; Arrested

The victim identified as Aanchal Kumari, was found inside a wooden box at her home in the Naya Bhojpur area under Dumraon police station's jurisdiction on Saturday night.

A woman in the Buxar district of Bihar has been arrested for allegedly strangling her eight-year-old stepdaughter, setting the body on fire, and concealing the remains in a gunny bag, police said on Sunday.

The victim identified as Aanchal Kumari, was found inside a wooden box at her home in the Naya Bhojpur area under Dumraon police station's jurisdiction on Saturday night. Police have taken the woman into custody on charges of murdering her stepdaughter.

Buxar Superintendent of Police Shubham Arya told news agency PTI, "The victim's family had lodged a missing complaint on Saturday. Police immediately launched a search operation to trace the girl." "When police searched the house, they found the charred body stuffed in a gunny bag concealed in a wooden box inside a room. During preliminary investigation, the victim's stepmother confessed to having committed the crime," he added.

He further added that the woman informed the police that she killed by strangulating her stepdaughter and then set the body on fire. Later, she stuffed the body in the gunny bag and hid it in the wooden box.

"Based on the woman's confessional statement and evidence collected from the spot, police arrested her. The body has been sent for the scientific examination. She did not tell the police the reason behind committing the crime. The victim's father lives in Delhi. The matter is being further examined," the SP added. 

Man Sets House On Fire Over Property Dispute In Kerala

In a separate incident, a man allegedly set his house on fire in a property dispute leading to the death of his elderly parents in Mannar, near Thiruvalla, Kerala on Saturday morning (February 1). The victims, identified as Raghavan (96) and his wife Bharathi (86) from Chennithala village, died in the blaze.

The accused, Vijayan, who had been involved in a long-standing property dispute with his parents and siblings, was arrested shortly after the fire. He confessed to the crime, stating that his actions were driven by anger over the ongoing family dispute, as per a report on IANS.

Two days before the incident, Vijayan had physically assaulted his parents in a heated argument over property matters, which led to a police complaint. Authorities had asked him to appear for questioning on Saturday.
