Bengaluru Rain: Schools, Anganwadis Closed As IMD Issues 'Orange' Alert For City

As per the latest forecast issued on Sunday, the city will see a generally cloudy sky with moderate rain and occasional heavy thundershowers

Light rain is likely to continue in Karnataka's Bengaluru on Monday, October 21, as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for the city. In the wake of incessant rain, the district administration has declared a holiday for schools and Anganwadi centres in the district as a precautionary measure. A few companies have also asked employees to work from home.

However, all degree courses, post-graduate programs, diplomas, engineering, and ITIs will remain open," the order issued by the district collector said.

However, the administration gave a list of general instructions to the heads of the colleges and the concerned persons to consider some points while conducting lectures in the colleges. "If there are weak, dilapidated buildings, such buildings cannot be used for lectures. In this regard, the heads of the colleges should pay attention to the good condition of the college buildings and take appropriate measures to avoid any accidents," said authorities.

As a precautionary measure, the lack of learning time caused by the holiday is to be made up by holding extra classes on Saturday afternoons or Sundays, the order said, adding that parents and college heads should ensure that students do not go to low-lying areas with water. They also asked institutes and parents to ensure the safety of vehicles used by students to go to college.

The District Collector said that information should be given to the students about dealing with natural calamities in the colleges.

IMD's Alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more rains in Bengaluru over the next two days. As per the latest forecast issued on Sunday, the city will see a generally cloudy sky with moderate rain and occasional heavy thundershowers. Temperatures are expected to hover around a maximum of 26 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 20 degrees Celsius during this period.

The IMD has also issued a yellow alert for 11 districts in Karnataka. The districts of Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Belagavi, Dharwad, Haveri, Gadag, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu, Chitradurga, Davangere, and Tumakuru are under a yellow alert till October 21 due to the forecast of heavy rainfall.
