A 25-year-old man died after a fish got stuck in his throat while he was fishing in Kerala's Alappuzha on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Adarsh alias Unni of Puthuppally, police said.

Around 4.30 pm, Adarsh was draining the paddy field with his friends and fishing. He was trying to catch another fish by biting the fish in his mouth when it went down his throat, PTI reported.

He was rushed to a private hospital in Ochira, but his life could not be saved. Adarsh's body has been kept at the Kayamkulam Taluk Hospital mortuary, police said.

They added that a case was registered under section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

Farmer Dies In Wild Boar Attack

In another incident, a 75-year-old farmer was killed by a wild boar in Kerala's Panoor on Sunday morning. The victim, Sreedharan, was attacked at around 9 am while visiting his farm.

Hearing his screams, locals rushed to the spot and found the wild boar still attacking him. He was rushed to a hospital in Thalassery, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Kerala Forest Minister A K Saseendran has announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for Sreedharan’s family, MLA K P Mohanan said in the release. The first installment will be handed over to the family after the cremation, it added.

Saseendran stated that an immediate report had been sought from the District Collector and the Chief Forest Conservator regarding the incident.

He said the area had not previously reported significant wildlife threats and was not listed among the hotspots identified by the Forest Department. He added that authorities would examine whether there were any lapses on the part of the Forest and Panchayat officials.

"The Panchayats have already been authorised to cull wild boars. If they failed to act, the reasons for their inaction will be investigated," he said.
