Zomato Co-Founder Akriti Chopra Steps Down To Explore New Interests

She was with the company for 13 years and made significant contributions, particularly in establishing and expanding Zomato's legal and finance departments during her previous tenure as CFO

The online food ordering and delivery platform Zomato announced in an exchange filing on Friday that its co-founder and Chief People Officer, Akriti Chopra, has decided to resign in order to explore new opportunities and interests. Chopra, who is a part of senior management, submitted her resignation effective September 27, 2024, as disclosed in a regulatory filing by Zomato.

"Pursuant to Regulation 30 of SEBI Listing Regulations, we would like to inform that Ms. Akriti Chopra, CoFounder & Chief People Officer designated as Senior Management Personnel (“SMP”), has tendered her resignation w.e.f. September 27, 2024," the filing reads.

"Deepi, As discussed, formally sending in my resignation effective today, September 27, 2024. It's been an incredibly enriching journey over the past 13 years. Thank you for everything. I'm always a call away. Wishing you and Eternal, the very best," the co-founder wrote in her exit mail which was uploaded on the stock exchange.

Notably, Chopra is married to Albinder Dhindsa, the CEO of Blinkit, and is a vital member of the team at the Gurugram-based company.

She was with the company for 13 years and made significant contributions, particularly in establishing and expanding Zomato's legal and finance departments during her previous tenure as Chief Financial Officer.

Prior to her time at Zomato, she gained valuable experience working at PwC for three years, where she specialized in tax and regulatory matters.

Meanwhile, former CTO Gunjan Patidar resigned in January 2023, just weeks after co-founder Mohit Gupta left the company. Around the same period, Zomato also saw the departures of Rahul Ganjoo, head of new initiatives and former food delivery chief, and Siddharth Jhawar, who led the Intercity Legends service. With Chopra's exit, she becomes the fifth co-founder to leave Zomato in the past two years, joining Patidar, Pankaj Chaddhah, Gaurav Gupta, and Mohit Gupta. Notably, Chaddhah stepped down in 2018, while Gaurav Gupta left in 2021.
