Gross Revenue Of Telecom Operators Climb 10.5 Per Cent In September Quarter, Says TRAI
The report released by TRAI showed that private sector players in the telecom industry such as Vodafone Idea, Jio, and Airtel hiked their mobile services rates by 11-25 per cent in September quarter
The gross revenue of telecom operators climbed 10.5 per cent in the July-September quarter in the year to Rs 91,426 crore against the same quarter a year earlier. The data released in a report from TRAI showed that this surge was seen during the period when mobile service providers hiked their tariffs.
The adjusted gross revenue, which is used by the government to figure out its levies, jumped 13.11 per cent to reach Rs 75,310 crore during the quarter under review, in comparison to Rs 66,583 crore logged during the September quarter a year earlier, reported PTI.
The quarterly performance indicator report released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) showed that private sector players in the telecom industry such as Vodafone Idea, Jio, and Airtel increased their mobile services rates by 11-25 per cent. The firms saw a jump in their average revenue per user (ARPU) after the tariffs were raised, however, they also lost subscribers during the period.

The report noted that the monthly ARPU for mobile services rose by 9.60 per cent to reach Rs 172.57 in September quarter against Rs 157.45 seen in the preceding June quarter. On a year-on-year (YoY) basis, the monthly ARPU for mobile services climbed 15.31 per cent in the quarter under review.
ARPU for pre-paid connection touched Rs 171 and the same in the post-paid segment hit Rs 190.67 in the September quarter.

The mobile subscriber base slipped by 1.68 crore on a quarter-on-quarter basis to reach 115.37 crore in the July-September quarter in the year, against 117 crore seen in the preceding June quarter.
The adjusted gross revenue (AGR) of Bharti Airtel rose 24.15 per cent to Rs 24,632.84 crore in the September quarter against the corresponding quarter a year earlier. Reliance Jio in the September quarter reported a 14.19 per cent jump in AGR to Rs 27,652.68 crore, while Vodafone Idea saw a 4.39 per cent rise in the metric to Rs 7,836.98 crore in the quarter under review, both on a year-on-year basis.
