Air India Launches Wi-Fi Service On Domestic Flights, Becomes First Indian Carrier To Provide This Facility
The airline said that this service will be available for passengers on its domestic flights free of charge for a limited introductory period. However, the carrier didn’t share details of this period.
Air India rolled out Wi-Fi internet connectivity services on its domestic and international flights. The Tata Group carrier became the first Indian airline to provide internet connectivity on domestic routes.
The airline said that this service will be available for passengers on its domestic flights free of charge for a limited introductory period. However, the carrier didn’t share details of this period, reported The Indian Express. The carrier intends to progressively offer the service on other aircraft in its fleet.
For now, the airline will provide Wi-Fi connectivity on its Airbus A350, Boeing 787-9, and some Airbus A321neo aircraft. The international flights of the carrier already provided internet connectivity to passengers as part of an ongoing pilot progamme.
These services are becoming a standard offering, specifically among major full-service carriers (FSCs) globally. Apart from the new A350 planes which the airline began operating in 2024, the other aircraft are part of the former Vistara, which merged with Air India in November 2024. All these carriers are equipped with special hardware that is needed to provide internet connectivity on board.
Rajesh Dogra, Chief Customer Experience, Air India, noted, “Connectivity is now an integral part of modern travel. For some, it is about the convenience and comfort of real-time sharing, while for others, it is about greater productivity and efficiency.”
Air India further said, “The deployment of Wi-Fi on domestic routes follows an ongoing pilot programme on international services operated by the Airbus A350, select Airbus A321 neo, and Boeing B787-9 aircraft serving international destinations including New York, London, Paris, and Singapore. As with the domestic offer, Wi-Fi is complimentary for an introductory period. Air India will progressively roll out the service on other aircraft in its fleet over time.”
