10 Years From Now, There Will Be No 9-5 Jobs, LinkedIn's Reid Hoffman Predicts

Neal Taparia, a prominent Indian-American entrepreneur and angel investor, recently shared a video featuring Reid Hoffman, underscoring Hoffman's impressive track record of accurate predictions

Reid Hoffman, co-founder of LinkedIn, has attracted a lot of eyeballs with his forecast that traditional 9-5 jobs will become obsolete by 2034. In a previous interview, Hoffman discussed how he expects Artificial Intelligence (AI) to fundamentally reshape the workforce, ultimately rendering conventional employment models outdated.

Hoffman envisions a future where the conventional employee model is replaced by gig economy participation. In this scenario, workers would engage with multiple companies across various sectors on a contract basis. While this shift could provide increased flexibility and a more comprehensive array of opportunities, it may also lead to diminished job security.

Neal Taparia, a prominent Indian-American entrepreneur and angel investor, recently shared a video featuring Reid Hoffman, underscoring Hoffman's impressive track record of accurate predictions. Taparia pointed out that Hoffman had anticipated major technological shifts long before they materialised, including the social media revolution, the sharing economy, and the rise of AI. Notably, Hoffman’s foresight extended back to 1997, well before technologies like ChatGPT emerged.

In his post on X (formerly Twitter), Taparia remarked, "Hoffman's past predictions are spooky: Predicted social networks would change the world (LinkedIn sold for $26B), saw the sharing economy coming (early Airbnb investor), called the AI revolution years before ChatGPT."

Taparia also highlighted the swift progress of AI, pointing out that just days after ChatGPT's launch, millions of jobs globally became obsolete. This rapid change led many companies to start training their employees to incorporate AI technologies into their roles.

Hoffman’s predictions indicate that freelancers might eventually surpass permanent employees in earnings, and traditional resumes could become obsolete.
