Who Is Kris Gopalakrishnan? The Infosys Co-Founder Booked Under SC/ST Atrocities Act

The complainant, Durgappa, a member of the tribal Bovi community, alleged that he was falsely implicated in a honey trap case in 2014.

Senapathy Kris Gopalakrishnan, co-founder of Infosys, has been booked under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, along with former Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Director Balaram and 16 others, reported PTI on Tuesday. The case, registered at the Sadashiva Nagar police station in Bengaluru, was initiated following a directive from the 71st city civil and sessions court.

Honey Trap Case

The complainant, Durgappa, a member of the tribal Bovi community, alleged that he was falsely implicated in a honey trap case in 2014 while working as a faculty member at the Centre for Sustainable Technology at IISc. He claimed this led to his dismissal from the institution.

Durgappa further accused the individuals of subjecting him to caste-based abuse and issuing threats, which he said caused him significant personal and professional distress.

The allegations have drawn attention due to the prominent individuals named in the case. Besides Gopalakrishnan and Balaram, the FIR lists IISc officials and other individuals, including Govindan Rangarajan, Sridhar Warrier, Sandya Vishwswaraih, Hari KVS, Dasappa, and several others. According to Durgappa’s complaint, these individuals conspired against him to orchestrate his dismissal and tarnish his reputation.

While the case has triggered widespread discussions, neither Kris Gopalakrishnan nor the IISc faculty have issued any statements addressing the allegations, at the time of writing.

Who Is Kris Gopalakrishnan?

Kris Gopalakrishnan is a notable figure in the Indian technology sector, having played a key role in the growth of Infosys. He served as the company’s CEO and MD from 2007 to 2011 and vice chairman from 2011 to 2014.

He has been recognised with the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian honour, and has held leadership roles in organisations like the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the World Economic Forum.

As the investigation unfolds, this case involving a celebrated industry leader and a prestigious academic institution raises serious questions about workplace practices, caste discrimination, and accountability.
