India Energy Week 2025: PM Modi's Inaugural Speech And Other Highlights From Day 1

The PM also shared several other green energy goals for the next five years including that India aims to add 500 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity by 2030

India Energy Week (IEW) 2025, a global energy event wrapped up day one with some of the most intriguing and enlightening sessions on Tuesday at Yashobhoomi, Dwarka, Delhi. The event was virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and attended by several industry leaders from around the world.

During his inaugural speech PM Modi said, "In the last 10 years, we have increased our solar energy generation capacity thirty-two times. Today India is the third largest solar power generating nation in the world. Our non-fossil fuel energy capacity has increased three times. India is the first country among G-20 nations to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement."

The PM also shared about several other green energy goals for the next five years. He announced that India aims to add 500 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity by 2030, while Indian Railways has set a target to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by the same year.

"The next two decades are very crucial for 'Viksit Bharat'. In the next five years, we will be crossing several big milestones. Several of our energy goals have been aligned according to 2030 deadline. We want to add 500-gigawatt renewable energy capacity by the year 2030. Indian Railways has kept a target of net zero carbon emission by 2030. Out targets may look very ambitious, however, whatever India has achieved in the last 10 years gives us the confidence that we will achieve these targets too", PM Modi said.  

Hardeep Singh Puri At IEW 2025

Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri also attended the event. Speaking at the inaugural session of India Energy Week 2025, he said, “Even when renewables become the dominant energy sources, oil and gas will continue to play a pivotal role - not just in power generation but in stabilising grids, industrial hydrogen, and energy storage innovations.”

Toyota Presented Sustainable Vehicle Portfolio

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) showcased its sustainable mobility portfolio at India Energy Week 2025, to support India’s energy independence and net-zero objectives. TKM’s exhibition features a variety of alternative powertrains aimed at reducing reliance on fossil fuels. Highlights include the Innova Hycross, equipped with a hybrid electric system that is compatible with E20 fuel, and a prototype of the Prius, designed to run on 100 per cent ethanol while incorporating plug-in hybrid technology.

BP Signs MoU With EIL

Global oil major BP entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Engineers India Ltd (EIL) to collaborate on identifying capabilities that will support activities in oil, gas, and refining during India Energy Week, the two companies announced on Tuesday.

About The Event

The event is set to attract more than 70,000 delegates, 700 exhibitors, and 500 speakers from around the world, establishing itself as one of the largest and most influential energy gatherings globally. The India Energy Week will take place from 11 February to 14 February in Delhi.
