Deepinder Goyal Denies Any Internal Turmoil After User Reveals 'Toxic' Work Culture At Zomato. Check Viral Post HERE

The post portrayed a grim scenario inside the firm, alleging a "toxic" work culture. It also claimed that Rakesh Ranjan suddenly stepped down from the role of CEO of Zomato's food delivery division.

Online food delivery giant Zomato, now operating under the name Eternal, has firmly rejected claims suggesting internal turmoil, calling them "utter nonsense." The rebuttal came after a Reddit post, allegedly authored by a Zomato employee, went viral, sparking concerns about the company’s workplace environment and market position.

The social media post portrayed a grim scenario inside the company, alleging a "toxic" work culture. It also mentioned the sudden departure of Rakesh Ranjan, former CEO of Zomato’s food delivery division. However, Zomato clarified that Ranjan remains with the organisation and has not stepped down.

Zomato Responds

Addressing the allegations, Zomato Co-founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal took to X (formerly Twitter) to categorically deny the charges. "All of this… is utter nonsense. Neither are we losing market share, nor will we ever force our employees to order on Zomato. Freedom of choice is something we stand for vehemently," he stated.

Goyal expressed dismay at having to respond to the rumours, adding, "It is embarrassing to even clarify this but doing it since many people reached out to me with concern." He thanked those who showed support, saying, "And thanks everybody for your concern... appreciate it."

Meanwhile, Eternal Group, Zomato’s parent entity, emphasised that leadership transitions are a routine exercise aimed at enhancing organisational efficiency. They confirmed that Ranjan remains a part of the leadership team and has not tendered any resignation, reported IANS.

Social Media Post Alleges Employee Monitoring

The anonymous Reddit post also accused the company of forcing employees to place a minimum of seven orders per month on Zomato, claiming that a system was in place to monitor compliance. Additionally, the post suggested that Zomato was losing ground to competitors like Zepto Cafe and Swiggy.

Concerns about the treatment of delivery partners were also highlighted as a broader industry challenge in the anonymous note. These allegations surfaced earlier this week, coinciding with a media report speculating that Ranjan was stepping down amidst a leadership reshuffle, with Goyal possibly taking interim charge — a claim the company has since dismissed.
