Air India Suspends Flight Network On 3 Routes, Lowers Frequency On 19 — Check If Your Route Is Affected

The recent changes reflect the airline's ongoing efforts to maintain stability across its flight schedules as it tries to overcome what is being termed as the 'darkest day' in its operational history.

In a fresh operational move, Air India has announced a temporary reduction in its narrowbody flight operations, affecting less than 5 per cent of its overall network. This development follows the airline struggling to manage the aftermath of the deadly plane crash in Ahmedabad involving 242 passengers, including crew.

The recent modifications made to its widebody international services  reflects the airline's ongoing efforts to maintain stability across its flight schedules as it tries to overcome what is being termed as the 'darkest day' in its operational history.

The adjustments will result in the suspension of services on three specific routes and a frequency reduction on 19 others, the airline said via an official statement on Sunday.

These changes will remain effective until at least 15 July 2025. According to the airline, the decision has been taken voluntarily to ensure greater operational consistency and reduce the chances of last-minute disruptions that could inconvenience passengers.

Despite these temporary cutbacks, Air India will continue to operate close to 600 narrowbody flights daily, covering 120 domestic and short-haul international destinations, thereby retaining the vast majority of its scheduled services, it added.

Routes Affected by Suspensions and Reductions

Among the routes temporarily suspended are Bengaluru-Singapore (AI2392/2393), Pune-Singapore (AI2111/2110), and Mumbai-Bagdogra (AI551/552), each of which previously operated seven flights weekly.

Additionally, the frequency of several domestic and regional routes will be reduced for the duration of the adjustment period. Key reductions include:

* Bengaluru-Chandigarh: From 14 to 7 weekly flights
* Delhi-Bengaluru: From 116 to 113 weekly flights
* Delhi-Mumbai: From 176 to 165 weekly flights
* Delhi-Kolkata: From 70 to 63 weekly flights
* Delhi-Coimbatore: From 13 to 12 weekly flights
* Delhi-Goa (Dabolim): From 14 to 7 weekly flights

* Mumbai-Bengaluru: From 91 to 84 weekly flights
* Mumbai-Kolkata: From 42 to 30 weekly flights
* Mumbai-Coimbatore: From 21 to 16 weekly flights
* Mumbai-Kochi: From 40 to 34 weekly flights
* Mumbai-Goa (Dabolim): From 34 to 29 weekly flights
* Mumbai-Hyderabad: From 63 to 59 weekly flights
* Mumbai-Varanasi: From 12 to 7 weekly flights

Passenger Support and Commitment to Safety

Air India has expressed its regret to passengers impacted by these service changes. The airline is actively reaching out to those affected to offer various options, including alternative flight arrangements, complimentary rescheduling, or full refunds based on passenger preferences.

The airline also confirmed that its updated schedules are progressively being made available through multiple channels, including its official website, mobile application, and customer contact centre.

In its statement, Air India assured, “We remain committed to restoring our full schedule as soon as practicable, while at all times prioritising the safety of our passengers, crew and aircraft.”
