Xiaomi Introduces SU7 Electric Car Priced At Just Rs 25 Lakh To Compete With Tesla

The base model of the Xiaomi SU7 Sedan comes with a price tag of around Rs 25 lakhs whereas that of Tesla's Model 3 comes at a price tag of Rs 28.3 lakhs.

Xiaomi over time is getting more and more serious about its rivalry with Tesla. The company recently announced the launch of its debut electric vehicle i.e., SU7 Sedan, in China at a jaw-dropping price. During a live stream, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun made a direct comparison between the SU7 Sedan and the Tesla Model 3. The car will be available in China starting in May. During the launch event, Jun said, “Xiaomi has decided to invest tenfold, starting from the development of fundamental core technologies, and committing to constructing an outstanding vehicle. Through 15 to 20 years of effort, Xiaomi aims to become one of the top five global automakers.”

The reason behind this comparison was that Tesla’s Model 3 is the best-selling new energy sedan in China that has a driving range of at least 600 kilometres (372 miles) and costs less than 500,000 yuan, according to industry website Autohome.

Xiaomi SU7 Sedan Vs Tesla Model 3: Price

Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun mentioned that the base model of the SU7 which comes with a 73.6 kWh battery and is good for 700 kilometres of range, would be priced at 215,900 yuan (approximately Rs 25 Lakhs) in China. Jun acknowledged that selling at this price would result in the company selling each vehicle at a loss.

In comparison to this, Tesla’s Model 3 starts at 245,900 yuan (Roughly Rs 28.3 Lakhs) in China.
