Tata Safari and Harrier 2024 Petrol 1.5 Turbo To Get 170BHP?

This engine in the Safari and Harrier will develop 170bhp and that is similar figures to the likes of the Mahindra Thar Roxx. While the power output would be 170bhp, the torque would be 280Nm or so.

Tata Motors could be launching the new Safari and Harrier with a petrol soon. Yes, the new turbo petrol engine could debut on the Tata Safari and Harrier first while later we can also get it in the Sierra as well as even the Curvv. The Curvv recently as the first Tata Motors car to get the 1.2-litre direct injection turbo-petrol engine and it is a motor that we liked on our first drive with the car.

However, now, the newer and bigger Tata Motors cars will have a larger 1.5l turbo petrol unit. This engine in the Safari and Harrier will develop 170bhp and that is similar figures to the likes of the Mahindra Thar Roxx. While the power output would be 170bhp, the torque would be 280Nm or so.

Like the Curvv with the smaller 1.2l turbo unit, this new 1.5l turbo petrol engine will come with automatic as well as manual gearbox options. The automatic though could be a dual clutch unit and it would be the first time that such an automatic gearbox is making its debut on the bigger Harrier and Safari SUVs.

A petrol engine would increase volumes for Tata Motors since both the Harrier and the Safari currently have a diesel engine only while its competition has both. A petrol engine will increase its buyer base further and this year will see the introduction of Tata Motors petrol SUVs alongside the EVs planned of course. We will have more details soon but Tata Motors could display the petrol version at the Bharat Mobility Expo.
