Mahindra Thar Roxx 5-Door Vs 3-Door: Going Beyond Features

Fundamentally, both the 3-door Thar and the Thar Roxx are completely different cars underneath too with a different platform which was chosen for the Roxx because more comfort was a priority

The Thar brand got much more popular with the latest generation but now the Roxx comes in to expand it much further. It is being called as a lifestyle SUV and Mahindra wants to dominate the Rs 12-25 lakh space with it. However, compared to the 3-door, is the Thar Roxx straying from the brand or is it the best Thar yet?

The 3-door Thar in its current generation was a huge change for this utilitarian off-roader with better looks, more comfort and much more powerful engine plus automatic options. The Roxx goes one step further with added practicality and even more features.

Fundamentally, both the 3-door Thar and the Thar Roxx are completely different cars underneath too with a different platform which was chosen for the Roxx because more comfort was a priority. The 3-door Thar is more hardcore but also has a bouncy ride which now has been changed for the Roxx.

Unlike the 3-door the Roxx also gets electric steering which would be a boon for many using the Thar as an everyday car. The ride is also much more pliant too. The 3-door with its smaller dimensions is slightly better off-road while its hydraulic steering will please enthusiasts. However, for everyday use, the Roxx is easier and does not have some of the issues of the 3-door. The biggest difference is ergonomics too. The 3-door lacks space with no rear doors and things like a camera plus remote fuel cap opener was missing.

The Roxx with its more premium white upholstery is clearly aimed at more on-road driving while it gets proper doors at the back with actually very good legroom. Then there are extra features like a panoramic sunroof, ADAS, 360 degree camera, powered driver’s seat, rear AC vents, armrests, remote fuel lid opener and more which makes the Roxx a lot more luxurious.

The 3-door in comparison doesn't have this but is more of a niche product with a soft top and more 4x4 options present, The Roxx does not come with a petrol 4x4 for example while the 3-door does while there is a smaller engine with the 3-door RWD too. In the end, the 3-door Thar has advantages like the lower price, more options like petrol 4x4 and it is smaller plus better off-road.

However, in all other aspects the Thar Roxx is a much more practical option with more comfort, space, features and being a much easier car to live with. For many who liked the Thar but could not buy it because of it being a bit impractical, the Roxx is the answer and in-turn it will grow the Thar brand much further in terms of sales too.
