First car to be 'Made in India':
The first car to be manufactured in India was the Hindustan Ambassador, which was largely based on the Morris Oxford of the UK. It was manufactured in Kolkata through a technical collaboration with Morris Motors, UK, and later became the Hindustan Motors Ambassador. It was first manufactured in 1948. Hindustan Motors started operations in Gujarat but was later moved to Kolkata, West Bengal.
Person who owned the first car in India:
Mr. Jamsetji Tata was the first Indian to own a car. The first car to come to India in 1897 was owned by The Crompton Greaves boss, an Englishman named Foster. However, in the following year, Mr. Jamsetji Tata of the Tata Group became the first Indian to own a car in the country. He is the founder of the Tata Group. Also, Ratan Tata, the present Chairman Emeritus of the Tata Group is not biologically related to Jamsetji Tata.
Yearly turnover exceeds Rs. 16 Lakh Crores:
Ratan Tata became the fifth director of the Tata Group, after taking over the reins from JRD Tata in 1991. When Ratan Tata joined the Tata group, its annual turnover was around Rs. 10000 Crore. This has now skyrocketed to Rs. 16 Lakh Crore under his leadership. The company's Year-over-year (YOY) revenue has increased by more than Rs. 500 Crore from the last year.
