Ford To Launch Ranger Raptor Pick-Up And Mustang Mach-E EV In India
Ford will not make any cars in India but will import Mustang Mach-E and Ranger Raptor pickup.
While Ford has wound up its domestic operations in India and stopped sales of its current model, it plans to still be in India in some form via CBU imports. Ford will not make any cars in India but will stay on as an importer of a small number of cars in the luxury end. It plans to get into the EV space with the Mustang Mach-E first and it is an electric luxury SUV also promising performance like the Mustang.
The Mach E could come to India in a range of variants including the near 500 bhp Mach-E GT version which is the most powerful one. Its huge 88kWh battery also means that range would be well above the 400km mark. The Mach-E would be a luxury SUV hence expect all the features including a massive touchscreen plus more. It would be more practical than the V8 Mustang sports car too with four doors and a big boot. It might be a well-priced EV SUV since current electric luxury SUVs are priced over a crore and not affordable at all, that said a price of Rs 60/70 lakh is expected.
The other launch would be the Ranger Raptor pickup also via the CBU import route. This is an off-road-oriented version of a popular pick-up. It has huge tyres for off-road performance, a four-wheel drive system with various modes to adapt to the terrain and the ability to do hardcore off-roading. It will have a 2.0l diesel but more power over the discounted Endeavour along with a 10-speed automatic.
Ford will have small dealers and a much smaller network in selling these expensive cars via an import route. Hence do not expect these cars to be cheap and both of these cars are expected to be priced at Rs 70 lakh and beyond. So yes, Ford will not completely exit India but these cars would only sell in small numbers plus it remains to be seen how much confidence the buyer has in Ford now to splurge on these expensive machines.
