Auto Expo 2025: The Hits And Misses While EVs Stole The Show

Auto Expo 2025: It is clear that while companies will continue to launch petrol cars the current focus is on EVs with an untapped segment market share being explored by carmakers

The 2025 Auto Expo has seen a huge number of unveils and while also many launches with carmakers showcasing a definite push towards electrification. The clear focus on EVs was seen with the major launches as well as unveils being EVs. Maruti Suzuki showed its first EV while Hyundai launched its first mass market EV. Tata Motors, MG and Mahindra also had new EVs to show while luxury carmakers like Mercedes or BMW also had the same.

This shows that 2025 would be the year of EV launches and that could lead to a significant growth for EVs overall. Currently, EVs have a small share of the total passenger car market but more options and greater infrastructure will mean better adoption. However, it was not all EVs as the Tata Sierra in its petrol avatar also dominated the headlines being a crucial launch for Tata as well being a model which is highly awaited.

It is clear that while companies will continue to launch petrol cars the current focus is on EVs with an untapped segment market share being explored by carmakers. While the compact SUV segment or the Rs 15-30 lakh segment has seen a big growth in sales, the lack of interest amongst carmakers to launch a new car below Rs 10 lakh is something that was seen at the Expo. The focus area seems to be premium cars while affordable cars or affordable EVs have taken a backseat.
