Parliament: Deadlock Continues Over Jantar Mantar Student Action

A political deadlock continues in Parliament over the alleged police action against students at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar and the issue of alleged theft of offerings at the Ram Temple. The Opposition has been demanding a statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the action against students. The government has said that Shah is ready to make a statement and participate in a detailed discussion, urging the Opposition to allow Parliament to function. However, the Opposition has now intensified its demand, with Rahul Gandhi calling for Shah’s resignation and seeking clarity on who allegedly ordered the use of force. The government maintains that no firing took place and accuses the Opposition of avoiding discussion. BJP president J.P. Nadda has also criticised Rahul Gandhi, alleging that the Opposition changes its demands when the government agrees to debate. With only three days remaining in the Monsoon Session until August 13, the deadlock appears unlikely to end soon, although bills continue to be passed amid disruptions.
