Kolkata Case: After Major Commotion in Bengal, Police Detains BJP Activist | Breaking News

West Bengal BJP called a 12-hour Bangla bandh on August 28 against the police action taken on students demonstrating against the Kolkata doctor's rape and murder, aiming to reach the West Bengal state secretariat, Nabanna, as part of their Nabanna Abhijan. The protest march turned chaotic in Kolkata and adjacent Howrah as hundreds gathered to demand justice for the RG Kar Hospital victim and resignation of CM Mamata Banerjee. Large-scale violence ensued on the streets of Kolkata and Howrah on Tuesday afternoon after protestors clashed with the police at multiple stoppage points. The violence lasted for around four hours, leading to several injuries on both sides. Several senior police officers and women protestors were among those who were hurt in the violent protests.  Over 200 people were arrested by the police from across the state as protestors took to incessant stone and glass bottles pelting on the police at various spots where their march was stopped. A police personnel said that fifteen personnel of the Kolkata Police and 14 from the state police force were injured in the clashes. Police had to even resort to large-scale lathi-charge, unleash water cannons, and lob tear gas shells to disperse the protestors who marched from multiple converging points at Nabanna
