Ideas Of India 2025: Amid Samay Raina And Ranveer Allahbadia Row, Cyrus Broacha Asks Not To 'Treat Them Like Criminals'

Ideas Of India 2025: Comedian Cyrus Broacha weighed in on the 'India's Got Talent' controversy, discussing freedom of expression and moral policing.

Ideas of India 2025: Amidst the swirling controversy surrounding Samay Raina's roast show, 'India's Got Latent', comedian Cyrus Broacha slammed the criticism at a discussion at the ABP Network Ideas Of India Summit 2025. The session, titled "The Power of Social Media - Navigating Celebritydom" and hosted by author Chetan, saw Cyrus Broacha and actress Kriti Kharbanda dissect the complexities of free speech and online outrage.

Cyrus Broacha on Freedom of Expression

The controversy started when Samay Raina was criticized for a joke made by guest Ranveer Allahbadia on his show 'India’s Got Latent', where he joked about "sex with parents," which many found disrespectful. Cyrus Broacha shared his opinion, saying, "In India, two words have been overused—'Parampara' and 'Sanskriti.' Your tradition, my tradition, and your morality, my morality can be different.”

"How many of you people have consumed porn? Okay, let's put it this way, how many of you have not consumed porn?" Cyrus asked the audience, questioning the selective outrage. "This is also illegal. So, who are we kidding? What is all this nonsense?"

He made the statement, "When all the crimes are available on the internet, then how bad is this?" in reference to the accessibility of more contentious content on the internet.

He lastly added, "This is a roast show. People talk like this. It is a copy of Tony Hinchcliffe's show 'Kill Tony'. Many people will know it. I don’t think they (Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia) should be treated like common criminals or have their careers stopped."

Kriti Kharbanda Says 'Let's Focus on Real Issues'

Kriti Kharbanda discussed her thoughts on general roasting and insult comedy saying, "It's my personal opinion. I feel like there are many issues in life which needs out attention and not getting it."

She said that the debate surrounding India's Got Talent isn't as important as the more obvious problems on social media. "I'd much rather have an opinion about the blatancy that I see on social media, where there are nudes that people send you sometime in your DM. You’re getting tagged in random posts. All of that is also happening," Kriti said.

She concluded, "By paying attention to something, you’re giving them that power of being important, it’s not important. It’s not worth the attention. What is worth your attention, drive your energy there. Timepaas kya krrhe hai hum?"
