AUS vs ENG, Champions Trophy 2025: Inglis' Century, Maxwell's Blitz Seal Australia's Thrilling Win Over England

Australia chased down a daunting target of 351 runs in just 47.3 overs, with five wickets remaining.

AUS vs ENG Highlights: In one of the most thrilling encounters of ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Australia kicked off their campaign with a spectacular win in Lahore. A hard-fought century from Josh Inglis (86-balls 120 runs), combined with an explosive innings from Glenn Maxwell (15-balls 32), powered Australia to successfully chase down a daunting target of 351 runs in just 47.3 overs, with five wickets remaining.

Australia’s chase of 352 against England in the Champions Trophy 2025 set multiple records.

It became the highest total successfully chased in the tournament's history and the highest run chase in any ICC ODI event. For Australia, it was their second-highest successful chase in ODIs and their highest-ever against England. Also, it ranked as the second-highest successful chase on Pakistani soil.

Australia successfully chasing down 352 against England surpassed Sri Lanka's 2017 record chase of 322 against India.

Australia's chase started on a shaky note as Travis Head fell early to Jofra Archer for just 6, followed by Steve Smith's unfortunate run-out by Mark Wood after scoring 5. However, opener Matthew Short and Marnus Labuschagne steadied the innings with a 95-run partnership for the third wicket before Labuschagne was run out by Adil Rashid for 47 off 45 balls, striking 13 fours.

Shortly after, Liam Livingstone dismissed Short for 63 off 66 balls, an innings laced with 9 fours and a six.

The turning point came when Josh Inglis and Alex Carey forged a crucial 146-run stand for the fifth wicket. Carey fell to a run-out by Brydon Carse after a well-compiled 69 off 63 balls. Inglis, however, anchored the chase with an unbeaten 120 off 86 balls, smashing 8 fours and 6 sixes. Glenn Maxwell provided the finishing flourish with a blistering 32* off 15 balls, ensuring a historic victory for Australia.

Earlier, batting first, England posted a formidable 351 - the highest total in Champions Trophy history - powered by a sensational 165 off 143 balls from Ben Duckett, who hammered 17 fours and 3 sixes at a strike rate of nearly 116.
