Delhi Station Stampede: Railways Announces Rs 10 Lakh Compensation For Victims' Families
At least 18 people, including 14 women, were killed in a stampede at the New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday night. Delhi Police has launched an investigation into the incident.

Indian Railways has announced a Rs 10 lakh compensation for the families of the deceased who lost their lives in the New Delhi Railway Station stampede on Saturday. Additionally, Rs 2.5 lakh compensation will be given to the seriously injured and Rs 1 lakh to those who sustained minor injuries.
At least 18 people, including 14 women, were killed and more than a dozen injured in the stampede that broke out late Saturday night at the crowded railway station. The stampede was preceded by a massive crowd rush of passengers waiting to board trains for Prayagraj to attend the Maha Kumbh. The stampede occurred on platform number 14 and 15 of the New Delhi station.
Delhi Police To Analyse CCTV Footage Of Delhi Railway Station
Meanwhile, Delhi Police launched an investigation into the stampede at New Delhi Railway Station, saying it will analyse the CCTV footage to determine what transpired before the chaos erupted.
"Our main target is to investigate the main cause which caused the stampede. We will collect all data of CCTV footage and announcements done during that time," a police source told news agency PTI.
The source also said that a wrong announcement about change of platforms may have caused a confusion and led to the stampede.
Acting Delhi Chief Minister Atishi earlier said that 15 people had been brought dead at the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital of central Delhi. The deceased also include minors -- two of them below 10. "Almost 15 people are injured and they are undergoing treatment," Atishi said.
CPRO Northern Railway Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay also said that an investigation is underway and that no train was cancelled.
"The situation is normal now. I want to inform that no train was cancelled. The platform of any train was not changed. Every train is running as per its schedule," he said.
The bodies of the deceased have been kept at the mortuary in Maulana Azad Medical College in New Delhi.
