Rekha Gupta Oath-Taking Highlights Updates: Rekha Gupta, a first-time Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), is set to take oath as Delhi's new chief minister. The 50-year-old MLA was selected as the Leader of the House during a BJP legislature party meeting on Wednesday, signalling the party's return to power in the national capital after a 26-year with a sweeping victory in the Delhi Assembly elections earlier this month.
The MLA from the Shalimar Bagh assembly constituency will be sworn in at a grand ceremony at Ramlila Maidan on Thursday, where more than 25,000 security personnel will be deployed.
Cabinet Minister Likely To Take Oath With Delhi CM
The event is expected to be attended by BJP leaders and chief ministers from states ruled by the party. Gupta, who triumphed in Shalimar Bagh by over 29,000 votes, will be the fourth woman to assume the role of Delhi's chief minister, following Sushma Swaraj, Sheila Dikshit, and Atishi. She will also be among the few women chief ministers in India, alongside Mamata Banerjee.
BJP leader Parvesh Verma, who earned the title of 'giant killer' after defeating Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal from the New Delhi assembly constituency is likely to assume the role of Deputy Chief Minister.
He could also take oath as a cabinet minister along with Manjinder Singh Sirsa (Rajouri Garden), Ravinder Inder Raj (Bawana-SC), Kapil Mishra (Karawal Nagar), Ashish Sood (Janakpuri), and Pankaj Singh (Vikaspuri).
Rekha Gupta began her political journey with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at Delhi University, where she rose through the ranks to serve as president of the Delhi University Students' Union.
Security Beefed Up Ahead Of Delhi CM Oath Ceremony
Security has been beefed up in the national capital ahead of the event. Over 25,000 police and paramilitary forces will be deployed at strategic points around the venue, with specialised units such as SWAT teams, snipers, and commandos ensuring the safety of the dignitaries and attendees.
The BJP’s victory in the Delhi elections saw them win 48 of the 70 assembly seats, leaving the AAP with 22 seats while the Congress drew a blank for the consecutive third term.

Let us work. She doesn't need to tell us everything; she has done what she has to while being in power."
