OpenAI Starts Rolling Out Operator AI Agent, Here Are The Countries That Now Have Access To It

While the rollout includes several key markets, OpenAI has confirmed that the AI agent will not be available in European nations.

OpenAI expanded access to its AI agent, Operator, to multiple countries on Friday. Previously, the tool had been in preview exclusively for ChatGPT Pro users in the U.S. since its launch in January. Designed with an integrated browser, the Operator functions as a general-purpose AI capable of independently executing online tasks based on user instructions.

While the rollout includes several key markets, OpenAI has confirmed that the AI agent will not be available in European nations.

OpenAI Rolls Out Operator AI Agent

OpenAI in a post on X announced the rollout of an AI agent and said that the Operator will now be available to ChatGPT Pro users in “Australia, Brazil, Canada, India, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, the UK, and most places ChatGPT is available.”

This tool at the moment is already available to those residing in the US. OpenAI also added that European countries will need to be patient till they get a chance to have access to the AI agent. The post added, “Still working on making Operator available in the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein & Iceland.”

Operator is now rolling out to Pro users in Australia, Brazil, Canada, India, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, the UK, and most places ChatGPT is available.

When OpenAI introduced Operator, it revealed that the AI agent operates on the Computer-Using Agent (CUA), a specialized model combining GPT-4o’s computer vision capabilities with advanced reasoning from an undisclosed OpenAI model, potentially o3. The AI system underwent post-training through reinforcement learning.

Equipped with agentic abilities, CUA can engage with graphical user interfaces (GUIs), interacting with elements like buttons, menus, and text fields. It also features a dedicated browser, enabling it to carry out tasks independently while allowing users to focus on other activities.

The operator processes both text and images as input. As it executes tasks, it interprets raw pixel data from the screen and interacts using a virtual keyboard and mouse within a sandboxed environment.
