Independence Day 2024: PM Modi Takes a Tough Stance on Crimes Against Women, Calls for Punishments

On Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his address from the Red Fort, not only spoke about the commitment to a developed India and the achievements of the BJP government but also expressed deep concern over the safety of women and girls. He highlighted the ongoing atrocities against women and daughters, stressing that there is significant public outrage and that state governments must address these issues with seriousness. PM Modi stated, "We must think seriously about the atrocities being committed against women and daughters. There is anger in society about this. State governments need to address it with seriousness. It is essential that those committing heinous acts receive swift and severe punishment to instill trust in society. Fear among criminals is necessary, and there should be widespread discussion about the punishments." He further emphasized that while crimes against women receive a lot of attention, the punishment of the perpetrators often goes unnoticed. PM Modi urged for greater visibility and discussion regarding the punishment of such criminals to create fear and ensure justice. He asserted that creating this fear is crucial to prevent such heinous acts in the future.
