Of Ads & Oaths: Rekha Gupta Is Delhi CM — Only 'Hema' Left To Complete The 'Nirma Quartet'
Rekha Gupta's appointment as Delhi's CM sparked social media humour over the iconic Nirma ad. The only remaining name to complete the quartet is "Hema".
As Rekha Gupta took her oath as the Chief Minister of Delhi on Thursday, social media erupted with a wave of humour, and a sprinkle of wit, harking back to the iconic Nirma detergent advertisement that featured the famous jingle "Hema, Rekha, Jaya, aur Sushma... sabki pasand Nirma [Hema, Rekha, Jaya, and Sushma... all prefer Nirma]. Incidentally, prominent politicians also have the same names — 'Hema' Malini, 'Rekha' Gupta, 'Jaya' Bachchan and J 'Jaya'lalitha , and 'Sushma' Swaraj.
With Gupta now in the Delhi CM's chair, netizens are playfully pointing out that only a “Hema” is left to complete this star-studded political quartet.

In a ceremony marked by tight security at Ramlila Maidan — Gupta made history as the fourth woman to assume the role of Delhi's Chief Minister. Her oath marked the BJP's return to power in Delhi after 27 years. With the event, the internet has been buzzing with memes and jokes about the coincidence.
One user on X quipped, "Rekha, Jaya and Sushma done…. Only Hema left to complete the cycle and then we'll have 'sabki pasand Nirma'." Sushma Swaraj was the CM of Delhi for 52 days in 1998, Rekha Gupta has just assumed the role, J Jayalalithaa was the CM of Tamil Nadu for six terms.

Gupta's journey to the top was nothing short of dramatic. A first-time MLA from Shalimar Bagh, she emerged victorious with a staggering margin of nearly 30,000 votes. Her political career spans over three decades within the BJP, where she has held various roles, including national vice-president of the BJP Mahila Morcha.

Malini Not The Only 'Hema' In Politics
With Gupta now at the helm of Delhi government, the nation is now only a 'Hema' away from completing this legendary quartet (of CM). Now, one can only wonder, if Bollywood’s Dream Girl, Hema Malini, will move to state politics. Hema Malini has been a Rajya Sabha MP for one term and a Lok Sabha MP from UP's Mathura for three consecutive terms.
However, Hema Malini is not the only politician named Hema. The less popular Hema is from Odisha. The wife of former Odisha Chief Minister Giridhar Gamang is the other "Hema". Hema Gamang is also a former MP and is currently with the Congress.
Given that Rekha Gupta, a first-time MLA has become the CM of Delhi, one cannot write off Hema Gamang's chances of helming the Odisha government.
