Every year, Agra, the city of the Taj Mahal, becomes even more vibrant during the Taj Mahotsav. This grand festival, held from February 18 to March 2, 2025, is a celebration of India’s rich culture, art, and traditions. Started in 1992, the festival is now in its 34th year, drawing visitors from around the world. It is supported by the Department of Tourism, Government of India, and gives artisans a platform to showcase and sell their crafts at fair prices.
Set against the backdrop of the Taj Mahal, the festival takes place at Shilpgram, near its eastern gate. It is a lively mix of handicrafts, folk music, dance, and food. Visitors can explore beautiful artworks, enjoy mesmerising performances, and take in the sights and sounds of a traditional Indian fair. Grand processions with elephants, camels, and folk artists in royal attire add to the Mughal-era charm.

Getting to Agra is easy. If traveling by air, Agra Airport (Kheria Airport) has limited flights, so the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, about 230 km away, is a better option. From Delhi, visitors can take a train or hire a cab. For train travellers, Agra Cantt is the main station, with fast trains like Gatimaan Express and Shatabdi Express ensuring a quick journey. Those driving can take the Yamuna Expressway, which offers a smooth 3-4 hour drive from Delhi.
Where To Stay?
Agra offers a range of stay options, from luxury hotels and boutique resorts to budget-friendly stays. Popular areas like Fatehabad Road, Taj East Gate, and Agra Cantt provide easy access to major attractions. For hassle-free check-ins, consider taking professional help.
What's Beyond Agra?
While the Taj Mahal is the main attraction, there is much more to explore. Just an hour’s drive away, Keoladeo National Park in Bharatpur is a haven for bird lovers. Mathura and Vrindavan, the birthplace of Hindu Lord Krishna, offer a deep spiritual and cultural experience. Nature lovers can take a Chambal Safari, a boat ride along the Chambal River, where they can spot gharials, crocodiles, and migratory birds.
