Controversial Delhi-based Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is in the news again. Two students living in the university's hostel have been fined a total of ₹1.79 lakh. The students are accused of allowing outsiders into their rooms, consuming alcohol and hookah inside, and using induction stoves and heaters, violating hostel rules. As a result, the students were penalized for allegedly breaching regulations. The university has given them five days to pay the fine. However, the former president of the Satluj Hostel criticized the fine, calling it extortion. This incident adds to JNU's history of controversies surrounding its campus regulations and disciplinary actions.
