Kerala Minor 'Sexually Abused' By Over 60 Perpetrators Over 5 Years, 14 Accused Arrested As Probe On

Based on the information of Child Welfare officials, the police have registered a case and have identified at least 62 perpetrators allegedly involved in the series of crime.

Kerala police have arrested 14 persons after revelations by a girl of repeated sexual abuse against her to Child Welfare Committee in Pathanamthitta. An 18-year-old girl alleged that over 60 persons sexually abused her over the past five years. The case came to light after the girl revealed to the Child Welfare Committee that she had been abused since the age of 13.

Based on the information from Child Welfare officials, the police have registered a case and have identified at least 62 perpetrators involved in the series of crimes, as per a report by The Hindu. The police also registered a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act case against 40 individuals.

Later, the police also arrested 14 people in five cases registered so far in connection with the sexual abuse.

"The Ilavumthitta police, which had registered two cases, had arrested 5 youths yesterday. Then today, the Pathanamthitta police registered 3 cases and immediately took 9 of the total 14 accused into custody. Subin (24), VK Vineeth (30), K Anandu (21), S Sandeep (30), and Sreeni alias S Sudhi (24) are the accused in a case registered at the Ilavumthitta station. Achu Anand (21) is the accused in another POCSO case registered here. The fifth accused in the first case, Sudhi, is currently in jail in another POCSO case registered by the Pathanamthitta police earlier," the Pathanamthitta Police informed, as per ANI.

The investigation into this case is being conducted by Pathanamthitta Deputy Superintendent of Police P S Nandakumar.

According to the survivor, the series of incidents started when she was first exposed to pornographic videos by a neighbour on his phone in Chenneerkkara. She alleged that the accused then abused her by taking her to an isolated hill near her house. She alleged that he later made his friends take advantage her.

Apart from the neighbour and his friends, she was reportedly abused by her trainers providing her athletic coaching and also by a few of her classmates, as per a report on Deccan Herald. 

Following this, the police have formed a special investigation team to probe the case. The CWC has also referred the girl for an in-depth counselling to overcome the she ordeal faced.
