SC Grants Bail To Congress MLA Devendra Yadav In Baloda Bazar Violence Case

Supreme Court has granted bail to Chhattisgarh Congress MLA Devendra Yadav in the Baloda Bazar Violence case. He is expected to be released from Raipur jail by Friday evening.

Chhattisgarh Congres MLA Devendra Yadav has been granted bail in the Baloda Bazar violence case by the Supreme Court. He was arrested in connection with the case from his residence in Bhilai in August 2024.

The violence erupted on June 10, 2024, in protest against the vandalism of the Satnami community's Jaitkham in Baloda Bazar. The MLA was accused of inciting the crowd and supporting the protestors.

Yadav is expected to be released from the Raipur jail by Friday evening.

Following the decision by the Supreme Court, former Chhatisgarh Chief Minister and Congress leader Bhupesh Bhagel took to X and claimed that Yadav was jailed in a "government conspriacy" case. He said it would be proved soon that the government had "wrongly kept" Yadav in jail for months.

"The Supreme Court today granted bail to Bhilai MLA Devendra Yadav who was jailed in a government conspiracy case. This is the victory of truth. This is the defeat of government conspiracy. In the coming times, it will be proved that the government wrongly kept him in jail for months," he wrote on X.

According to a report by PTI, Yadav was charged under various sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including 109, 120B, 153A, 147, 148, 149, 186, 332, 353, 341, 427, 435, 436, 501, and 505.

After his arrest, the MLA was sent to three-day judicial remand by CJM Rajesh Khakha, who oversaw the proceedings in Baloda Bazar. Nearly 179 individuals were arrested in connection with the violence last year.

Yadav had been summoned thrice for the interrogation, but had failed to appear. He had instead asked the police to visit his residence for questioning. The violence involved protests by the Satnami Community (Scheduled Caste) and resulted in the destruction of the collectorate building, burning of hundreds of vehicles, and extensive damage to public property.
