ELECTION UPDATE: Tension in Murshidabad eases, Kabir continues campaign amid heavy security

Polling day developments in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district saw a mix of tension and stabilization as security forces maintained strict vigil across sensitive constituencies, including Naoda and surrounding areas. Humayun Kabir, who has been actively campaigning in the region, was seen visiting multiple polling booths under Y-category security cover while interacting with voters and supporters. Ground reports indicate that he also reached another constituency, Rejinagar, as part of his scheduled campaign movements during the voting process. Earlier in the day, tensions had escalated in parts of Naoda following reported clashes between rival political groups, leading to a brief period of unrest. However, security personnel intervened promptly, dispersing crowds and restoring order. Authorities confirmed that voting has continued without interruption in most booths, with voters gradually returning to polling stations once the situation was brought under control. During his movements, Kabir alleged that attempts were made to intimidate voters and disrupt the electoral process, while also crediting his security detail for preventing a potentially larger escalation. He stated that the presence of adequate security forces helped avoid further deterioration of the situation during moments of heightened tension. Officials on the ground have maintained that polling remains largely peaceful across the constituency, despite isolated incidents of disturbance. Additional forces have been deployed in sensitive areas to ensure smooth conduct of voting and prevent any recurrence of unrest. As the day progresses, voter participation continues steadily across Murshidabad, with authorities closely monitoring developments in real time to ensure a safe and orderly electoral process throughout the district and adjoining constituencies during the ongoing polling phase.
