Video Of Rats Roaming Around In Train Pantry Goes Viral, IRCTC Responds
The RPF personnel reportedly said there are hundreds of rats residing beneath the tracks, and if a few enter the trains, it is not a problem.
Despite the efforts by the Indian Railways, hygiene has still remained a concern for passengers travelling by trains. Occasionally, videos keep surfacing on social media showcasing the level of hygiene maintained inside train compartments and pantry cars. Now, a video of rats roaming inside a pantry of a train and nibbling on stored food has gone viral on the internet.
As soon as the incident caught the attention of social media users, IRCTC responded by saying "the matter is viewed seriously and suitable action has been taken."
Mangirish Tendulkar shared the clip on Instagram with a detailed description of the incident.
"As a railfan and as a train traveler. The scene unfolds as I was travelling with my family in 11099 LTT MAO express dated 15/10/2023 which was rescheduled from its original timings from 1:45 midnight to 3:30. Being a railfan I thought of recording the engine coupling to the train so I started walking towards the end. This is where the real shock began."
He further goes on to explain, "The Pantry Car was almost at the middle of the train which was a Garib Rath liveried coach where i could see Atleast 6-7 rats of which i could film only 4."
On seeing the rats, Tendulkar complained to the RPF but received a disheartening response. The RPF personnel reportedly said there are hundreds of rats residing beneath the tracks, and if a few enter the trains, it is not a problem.

Surprised by the answer, Tendulkar decides to complain to the Assistant Station Master Meena, who in turn contacted the Pantry Manager, who also expressed helplessness and said, "There are indeed numerous rats in the pantry. What can we possibly do about it? The railways consistently provide us with only substandard coaches."
However, the IRCTC took note of it and responded by saying, "The matter is viewed seriously and suitable action has been taken.Pantry Car Staff have been sensitised to ensure hygiene and cleanliness in the pantry car. The concerned have been suitably advised to ensure effective pest and rodent control measures which is being ensured."
