Passengers Break Into Garba At Ratlam Station As Train Arrives Early, Railways Minister Shares Video

A video of the passengers performing garba, a Gujrati dance form, has gone viral on social media.

New Delhi: Indian Railways is often called the lifeline of the nation and owing to its vast network, some trains have a notoriety for running late. However, when the Bandra-Haridwar Express arrived at Madhya Pradesh's Ratlam station ahead of schedule, a group of passengers broke into a spontaneous dance performance on the platform.

A video of the passengers performing garba, a Gujrati dance form, has gone viral on social media. The incident also caught Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw's attention, who tweeted a clip of the passengers dancing at Ratlam station. "Majama. Happy Journey," Vaishnaw tweeted.

It all started when the Bandra-Haridwar train arrived at Ratlam station at 10.15 pm on Wednesday, about 20 minutes before time. The train has a stoppage time of 10 minutes at the station. The early arrival meant that the train wouldn't leave the station for about 30 minutes.

It was then that a group of bored passengers got down on the platform and began to perform garba. Other passengers too joined in, much to the surprise of onlookers and station staff.

The video shows the group of passegers dancing to songs like "Odhni Udi Udi Jaye". The train departed from Ratlam at 10.40 pm as per shedule.

"All these people were going to Kedarnath by Bandra-Haridwar train at night. The train reached the station at Ratlam 20 minutes ago. In such a situation, this group of people of Gujarat got down at Ratlam station and started spending time doing Garba," an official told The Free Press Journal.

As the video went viral, netizens were amused to see the impromptu performance. "Great Scenes!! One of the good thing that has happened in this govt is punctuality. Trains speeds has increased. I do travel a lot and I have observed that train reaches station 45-50 mins before. So, Will be a request to review the time table acc to new speed limits," tweeted one user while replying to the minister.
