Leftovers Meant For Dog Served To Students In School In China: Report
A Chinese school faced outrage for serving discarded food from older students to younger ones, kept in a dog food bucket. Local authorities have announced a probe into the matter.
In a shocking incident, a school in China has been accused of serving food discarded by older students, which had been kept in a bucket used for dog food, and then serving it to younger students.
As reported by the South China Morning Post (SCMP), the incident occured at the Wulidianzi School in Huanren County, Liaoning Province, northeastern China.
As per the reports, the workers at the canteen were seen discarding leftover food from older students into a bucket meant for dog food, planning to take it home for their pets. However, minutes later, when younger pupils came to the canteen, the workers emptied the discarded food from the bucket and served it to the children. Some students reportedly vomitted after eating the food.
Infuriated by this act, parents gathered at the school demanding to stop this practice. It has been reporetd that the school only agreed to let them watch the canteen’s surveillance recordings. However, it refused to let parents record the footage.
Parents were in tears as they see the video footage of their children eating left-overs and then vomitting. "All the parents watching the surveillance video cried," a mother was quoted as saying. “I want to ask the headmaster, you also have a kid and are you willing to let your kid eat this kind of food?”
Condemning the incident, one social media user said, “They are not our enemy. They are our kids, the future of our country. How do you dare to give them such food?”
Responding to the backlash, the local authorities have announced to conduct an investigation. As per the infromation, they are going to set up a special team to probe the matter.
The educational institutions in China have been facing criticism over food safety concerns. Earlier in 2023, a college in Jiangxi province was in news when a student discovered a mouse head in a meal served at the canteen. The management claimed it was a piece of duck head, however, an official investigation proved otherwise.
